    The crown jewel of Nordic skiing in North America. 100+ kilometer trail system from Hayward to Cable with 9 trailheads. Groomed for both classic and skate skiing. Home to the legendary American Birkebeiner race — North America's largest cross-country ski marathon, drawing over 9,500 skiers each February.

    Rock Lake National Recreation Trail

    Classic-only, rolling to hilly terrain through maple/oak forest with white pine. 2K to 16K loops. Intermediate/advanced. $5 National Forest fee.

    Mukwonago Ski Trail

    Skate and classic, loops of 2.3K, 4.4K, 7.5K, 13.6K. Rolling terrain, long downhills. Oak and white pine forest.

    North End Ski Trails

    Stacked-loop system near Cable, 10K loop + cutoffs. Skating and classical. Warming cabin, parking, restrooms.

    Hayward Town Forest

    4 miles, small hills, scenic mixed woods, small lake, wildlife. Sledding hill. Free with donations accepted. County Hill Road west of Hayward.
